6 Vet- and Owner-Approved Tips for Keeping Your Dog Calm During July Fourth Fireworks

The Fourth of July is a time for backyard barbecues, pool parties -- and fireworks. Though you might love the pyrotechnics, your dog may bark and howl or hide under the bed. According to the American Kennel Club, a large number of pooches even run away during the Independence Day holiday.

"They don't know where the noise is coming from and they try to escape because they don't understand," said Dallas Harsa of lost pet recovery service AKC Reunite.   

"It can be the smell. It can be the noise and the flashes of the light," New Jersey veterinarian Judy Morgan told the AKC. "Your dog may tremble, shake, shiver, howl and bark -- some of them get frantic."

Some dogs get so anxious during the light show that they have to be sedated. Before it comes to that, though, check out a few handy tips for keeping your pup calm during fireworks, from veterinarians and a few of my pet-owning coworkers. 

1. Think twice before taking your dog out

The social atmosphere and warm weather might tempt you to take your dog out to see the fireworks show, but it can take years of desensitization and positive reinforcement to make a dog relaxed around fireworks. 

If you do take your dog out on Independence Day, be sure to use multiple forms of restraint and have them microchipped and tagged, said Jana Bone, a veterinarian at Skyline Animal Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Healthline editor Heather Hobbs' Golden Retriever-Saluki mix, Daisy, has no problem with fireworks now. "We would give her treats each time she heard the booms," said Hobbs.

A seemingly calm dog may suddenly get startled and bolt, Bone said. 

Krista Scholdberg, a software engineer with CNET's parent company, Red Ventures, said her family had to work for a long time to get their Belgian sheepdog, Omega, to enjoy fireworks. She advises training your dog to get used to loud sounds when they're a puppy.

"Be prepared with lots of high-value treats and pass them out every time there is a boom," Scholdberg said.

More important, she added, stay relaxed yourself.

"They will pick up on your cues and get more stressed when you are stressing about them being stressed."

Scholdberg started training Omega when he was little and, at just 2 and a half years old, he's completely unaffected by fireworks and other loud noises.

"We're in South Carolina, where fireworks are legal, so anytime people start setting them off, we go outside," she said. "I give him treats every time." 

2. Create a safe area

To get started, keep the curtains closed and try to bring your dog to a part of the house without windows or glass doors, like the basement or even a closet.

"We've had dogs run right through glass doors," Bone said.

Keep the lights low -- or off -- and fill the space with a dog bed and his favorite blanket and toys. A dog might even prefer a crate or kennel during the fireworks.

If you can, stay home with them during the light show or find someone the dog knows and trusts to be with them.

3. Drown out the sound with music or white noise 

Leave the TV or radio on high volume or run the air conditioner or fan to help cover up the booming fireworks.

There's even specific music shown to lower anxiety in dogs, like the Through a Dog's Ear CD series.

"I came across some playlists on Spotify for classical music for pets, which seems to really help my dog and cats," said Healthline editor Veronica Zambon. "Last Bonfire Night in the UK, they actually settled down and slept with the fireworks going on for several hours as the music blasted through some speakers."

4. Take them for a walk well before the fireworks start 

A trip to the dog park well before sunset can help ensure your pooch won't have to heed nature's call during the fireworks. 

It can also help him work off excess energy and relax him for the evening -- as will extra intense playtime during the day.

"Use a Kong with peanut butter to keep them occupied and some soothing music or white noise," said Red Ventures recruiter Sophia Rossell Romo. "You want to tire them out earlier that day so they have less excess energy."

RV administrator Samantha Kuykendall uses what she calls the "popcorn party" strategy.

"We pop a bowl of plain popcorn and every time a firework goes off, we call it the 'popcorn alarm' and toss our dog a few pieces," Kuykendall said. "After a bit she stops stressing out and looks to us for a snack every time there are fireworks!"

5. Try a Thundershirt or anxiety wrap

Human babies are calmer when swaddled in a blanket and fur babies are the same way: Swaddling a dog with a blanket can be difficult, though, so you might want to try a ThunderShirt. 

"It's basically like a weighted blanket for your dog that velcros around them," Bone said.

Other good options include the Surgi Snuggly and the American Kennel Club AKC Anti-Anxiety and Stress Relief Calming Coat.

You can also go low-tech: "I've used a snug-fitting T-shirt to help with the anxiety," Red Ventures engineer Christopher Turley said. "It's helped a lot not only for fireworks, but for thunderstorms. There are commercial products, but even a good old T-shirt helps."

6. Talk to your veterinarian about medication

If your pet's anxiety is severe, talk to your vet about giving them medication. Bone said she often prescribes a combination of an anti-anxiety medication, such as trazodone, and a sedative, like gabapentin.

"We'll often start them a few days before the fireworks are expected," she added. "If we can stay ahead of the anxiousness, we can get control. You definitely don't want to wait for the first loud noise to give your dog medication."

Red Ventures senior engineer Thomas Hopkins has gone through several options with his mom's dogs. They now both get a dose of Trazodone any time the family knows they'll be near fireworks.

"Definitely let your vet guide you on medication," said Hopkins, whose wife is a veterinarian. "It's possible your pet could benefit from longer-term anxiety medication."

AMD reveals Ryzen 5000 series mobile processors at CES 2021

AMD announced its Ryzen 5000 series mobile processors on Tuesday, with Chief Executive Lisa Su taking to the virtual stage for her CES 2021 keynote. The new line includes a 35 watt version intended for a new generation of thin-and-light gaming laptops, directly competing with the 11th-gen Tiger Lake H35 CPUs announced by Intel the previous day. It also includes low-power U series processors which are used in mainstream lightweight laptop designs. 

The reveal follows the graphics card maker's reveal of the desktop equivalent in November, which debuted the Zen 3 processing cores, the latest version of the 7nm architecture on which the bulk of the Ryzen 5000 series is based. For the H series, which for both Intel and AMD denotes the higher-powered processors, AMD adds a new HX tier; those CPUs can be overclocked, accessing power beyond their base 45w rating for better performance.

A host of laptop manufacturers launched new and refreshed models incorporating the 5000-series CPUs. Most notable is Asus, which incorporates the highest-end Ryzen 9 parts in multiple systems, including the novel ROG Flow X13 with the 5980HS and the ROG Zephyrus Duo SE and ROG Strix Scar, both of which top out with the 5900HX. The Acer Nitro 5 will come in a model with the 5900HX.

Not all the 5000 series CPUs take advantage of Zen 3, though. Of the U series processors announced at CES, only the Ryzen 7 5800U and Ryzen 5 5600U do; the others are based on Zen 2, the same as the last generation of Ryzen 4000 mobile CPUs launched a year ago. There are several differences between Zen 2 and Zen 3, but perhaps most important in this context is Zen 3 delivers better performance per watt. In other words, better battery life.

As for actual performance in a head-to-head with Intel's equivalents, that will have to wait until we start getting models in to test. (Both AMD and Intel cite test results compared to each other, but those aren't very meaningful.)

Su also offered a demonstration of AMD's upcoming third-generation Epyc server chip, code-named Milan, running weather forecasting software. In the test, a server with dual processors, each with 32 cores, outpaced a dual-processor Intel server using Xeon Gold 6258R chips with a 68% performance advantage.

That's the kind of performance that appeals to customers like Lucasfilm, which built a special effects studio in Sydney entirely with AMD-based systems. "We just need as much firepower as possible," said François Chardavoine, Lucasfilm's vice president of technology, during the keynote.

Su also highlighted AMD's efforts to help COVID-19 research, having donated computing power to universities across the world, an effort that's used AMD's Epyc processors.

Centuries ago, a dashing foreigner named Axel von Fersen allegedly enchanted the notoriously extravagant queen of France, Marie Antoinette. They etched their forbidden love in ink by exchanging letters from afar, but historians have struggled to decipher words that seem purposely scribbled over.

What were these rumored lovers trying to hide?

"There are passages -- sometimes several lines -- that are redacted, or covered with loops that prevent reading," said Anne Michelin, a chemist at the Center for Research and Conservation at Sorbonne Universite in France. "It is impossible, at least for me, to read what is below the redaction."

Michelin and her team were contacted by the National Archives in France -- which holds 15 of the couple's preserved letters, shared around the time of the French Revolution, which began in 1789 -- to decrypt what lies beneath those redactions. 

Employing a long and complex process involving X-ray fluorescence and ink analysis, the team turned to chemistry to piece together the pair's secrets. Their analysis broke through on eight of the notes, uncovering telling words such as "my dear friend," "beloved," "madly" and "adore." They published their findings Friday in the journal Science Advances.

"The redacted passages are the most intimate passages of the correspondence," Michelin said. "Where a vocabulary of the order of the love relationship appears."

Michelin also surprisingly discovered that von Fersen, a Swedish count, did the censoring -- contradicting the commonly held belief that the count's great nephew tampered with the letters 100 years later and the intuitive idea that Marie Antoinette took care of the deed herself.  

The troubled queen was the one with obvious assets to lose: her marriage to King Louis XVI, her royal title and most of all, her already dwindling reputation due to perceived political negligence that left France in massive debt.

"Axel von Fersen probably wanted to keep this correspondence, important to him perhaps for sentimental reasons or political strategies, while protecting the queen's honor -- and perhaps his own," Michelin explained.

Although the unveiled passages don't radically change what we know about the relationship between von Fersen and the queen, these lines provide a nuanced peek into the political turmoil of the era. 

"There is no doubt about the love relationship," Michelin said. "The content of their correspondence -- even without redactions -- leaves no doubt about it."

But she emphasizes that the centuries-old letters remain a "precious witness of these troubled times -- of the way political events exacerbate emotions," as the full text of the messages between von Fersen and the queen pepper political language with adoring sentiments.

It seems von Fersen was declaring his love to Marie Antoinette while advising her on governmental strategies, the latter of which he didn't try to hide.

To delve into this rich history, scientists used a form of ink analysis to learn what lies beneath the protective cloaks over the couple's letters. The tests used in the study allowed them to examine the chemical makeup of various inks to identify contrasting features. 

Then they differentiated between ink used to write the letters and ink used to hide passages.

One of the major findings is that all the letters from the archives were penned by von Fersen -- including those addressed from the desk of Marie Antoinette. Von Fersen would rewrite his lover's letters and only keep the duplicates, presumably for security or perhaps tradition.

"Many letters written by Marie-Antoinette were copied by von Fersen, either because the original was initially encrypted to prevent the correspondence from being read by anyone…or simply because it was a common practice at the time," Michelin said.

With that knowledge, Michelin's team "compared the composition of the inks used by von Fersen to write and copy the letters [with] the redaction inks."

But it's not as simple as deciphering between two inks' chemicals. Von Fersen often used pigment with the same chemical composition, so the team had to rely on variations in chemical content of the elements zinc and iron. Using X-ray fluorescence, they contrasted zinc-to-iron ratios and mapped out pen strokes below redacted passages. 

"The most challenging part was having to adapt to each letter -- sometimes to each word -- and to find the right strategy each time," Michelin said.

Differences in chemical compositions present on the paper are also what proved von Fersen redacted the passages himself. "The composition of the redaction ink was found in a writing ink on another letter," Michelin said. 

"The coincidence was too big."

Whether you know about Marie Antoinette from her iconic fashion statements and graceful demeanor or her conviction for treason and resulting execution, she was a force. Her behavior, personal artifacts and romantic connections will continue to be studied for years to come, as historians unlock more chapters of her story.

The current version of Acer's AMD-based Chromebook Spin 514 is good but there's definitely room for improvement. In fact, for a recently released Intel-powered version of the 14-inch convertible Chromebook, Acer overhauled it with 11th-gen Intel processors and upgrades. The Acer Chromebook Spin 514 base model will feature the AMD Ryzen 3 5125C, 8GB of dual-channel RAM and a 128GB PCIe Gen 3 NVMe SSD for $580 when it's available in the third quarter of 2022. (That price converts to roughly £460 or AU$800.) Configurations will be available with up to the top-of-the-line Ryzen 7 5825C processor, up to 16GB of memory and up to a 256GB SSD. 

The features found on the Intel version will also be part of the AMD configurations including the full-HD webcam with a privacy shutter, Wi-Fi 6, a backlit keyboard and a 1080p display with 100% sRGB color space. 

An enterprise version of the Chromebook Spin 514 with AMD inside will also be available starting at $900.

Adjustable-rate mortgages: Everything you need to know

The vast majority of mortgages are of the traditional, fixed-rate variety which offer stability and predictable payments for the life of your loan. Adjustable-rate mortgages offer more flexibility -- and often a lower initial rate -- than fixed-rate loans. But you're going to take on some risk in exchange for those benefits. 

Low rates on fixed-rate mortgages may have driven more borrowers away from ARMs over the past decade -- they currently make up a tiny share of the overall mortgage origination market -- but they can still be a good choice in the right circumstances, according to Mike Swaleh, area manager with Fairway Independent Mortgage Company in St. Louis.

"You really only want to take on the risk of an ARM product when the rate difference compared to a fixed-rate loan is high enough to make it worth it," says Swaleh. ARMs can also be a good idea if you're not planning on owning the home for longer than the introductory period or you have the financial flexibility to withstand a high rate increase.

Below, we break down how ARMs work, how they differ from other types of mortgages and whether they're a good option for you.

What are adjustable-rate mortgages?

There are many types of ARMs, but they all have one thing in common: a fixed-rate introductory period followed by a variable interest rate. This is what differentiates all ARM products from traditional fixed-rate mortgages.

With an ARM, you'll pay a set rate for an introductory period of one or more years (more on that below), after which the interest rate can go up or down -- depending on a range of macro-economic factors. Once you're in the adjustable-rate period, your monthly payment could change significantly every year -- making budgeting more difficult.

The big appeal of ARMs is that the initial introductory rate is usually lower than the rate on a fixed-rate mortgage. This has held true even in 2021, when fixed rates have hit historic lows. With an adjustable-rate mortgage, you're taking a gamble that the savings you collect in that introductory period will pay off even if your payment eventually goes up. 

Two factors that will affect your payment during the adjustable-rate period are indexes and caps.

Indexes that affect ARMs

Short-term rates like those for ARMs are based on a few major indexes. These indexes set the base rate for any loans that are made. The most common ones for ARMs are: 

  • The Constant Maturity Treasury: This is the weekly average yield on the US Treasury note, which represents short-term government securities and is backed by the Federal Reserve Board.
  • Secured Overnight Funding Rate: This rate, which serves as a benchmark for all overnight cash lending, is replacing the London Interbank Offered Rate as the primary index for short-term loans.
  • The 11th District Cost of Funds Index: This provides a weighted average of the rates banks pay on savings accounts and money they borrow from other institutions. 

On top of whichever index your ARM uses, your lending institution will set a margin. This margin is usually set for the life of your loan and added to your current rate when your loan adjusts. For instance, if the index is 1.5% and your lender's margin is 2%, your effective rate is 3.5%.

Adjustable-rate caps

These indexes can change significantly over time, which leaves you vulnerable to substantial rate swings. This risk is somewhat mitigated, however, by rate caps. These caps serve as guard rails that prevent your interest rate and loan payment from increasing too much.

Your adjustable-rate loan caps should be disclosed upfront and usually come in one of two forms:

  • Periodic caps, which limit how much your rate can increase from one period to the next.
  • Lifetime caps, which put a lid on how much your rate can go up over the life of the loan.

Although payment caps protect you from big rate hikes, they can also expose you to something dangerous: negative amortization. If the index rate is higher than your cap, your payment might not be large enough to cover the principal, and you could end up seeing your loan balance go up instead of down.

How introductory periods work

To truly understand adjustable-rate mortgages, it's important to get a handle on the nomenclature. 

With a 5/1 ARM, the five indicates your introductory period -- five years -- and the second number -- the one -- indicates the annual frequency with which your rate readjusts after the introductory period ends. For a 5/1 ARM with an introductory rate of 2.5% (0.5% index and 2% margin) and a 30-year term, your rate will be set at 2.5% for the first five years, after which it's eligible for adjustment once a year.

This means that you can count on a set payment for five years. In year six, if the index jumps to 2.5%, your new effective rate is 4.5%. For the remaining 25 years of your loan, your principal payment won't change, but your interest payment will increase. And that could add hundreds of dollars to your monthly payment.

Common types of adjustable-rate mortgages

There are a wide variety of ARMs on the market. Here's an overview of the most common ones:

Hybrid ARMs

These ARMs have both a fixed period and an adjustable period, as indicated in the example above. The first number indicates the fixed period (in years), and the second indicates how often the adjustable rate will be reviewed and updated. This adjustment time frame is usually one year but could be different (every six months or every five years, for example). Common types of hybrid ARMs include:

  • 5/1 ARM: The most common ARM, this mortgage features an introductory five-year fixed-rate period after which your rate can be adjusted annually. 
  • 7/1 ARM: This ARM has a seven-year fixed-rate introductory period, after which your adjustable-rate would change once a year for the duration of the loan.
  • 10/1 ARM: This ARM has a 10-year fixed-rate introductory period, after which your adjustable-rate could change once a year for the duration of the loan.
  • One-year ARM: This ARM has a one-year fixed-rate introductory period, after which your rate would adjust once a year for the duration of the loan. Right now, one-year ARMs are popular options for jumbo loans, particularly since current rates are at all-time lows.

Interest-only ARMs

These ARMs offer an introductory period during which you pay only interest while your principal balance stays the same. Often, you'll have a low monthly payment during the introductory period, but it could increase significantly once you're required to start paying off the principal -- especially if your rate increases at the same time.

Payment-option ARMs

These adjustable-rate mortgages offer considerable flexibility -- and risk. Lenders may offer several payment options, including paying interest and principal, only paying interest or making a minimum payment -- each with its own pros and cons. Some lenders may let you select a different payment option each month. Unpaid interest on these types of loans can add up quickly, however, putting you at risk of negative amortization. 

FHA ARM Loans

You don't need a conventional loan to opt for an ARM. FHA loans, which are backed by the Federal Housing Administration, are also available in various hybrid formats. These loans are typically used for first-time homebuyers and can be a good option if you can't afford a 20% down payment or have poor credit. FHA ARMs are available as one-year ARMs, as well as 3/1, 5/1, 7/1 and 10/1 options.

Reasons to consider an adjustable-rate mortgage 

Despite the risks, an ARM can be a good option for some home buyers. They offer several advantages:

  • Lower interest rates than fixed-rate mortgages: The difference varies based on market conditions, but you're likely to get a lower initial rate on an ARM than a 30-year, fixed-rate mortgage. When fixed rates are high, ARMs can make for a compelling alternative.
  • Flexibility: If you know you're not going to be in a home for the long haul, you can take advantage of a low introductory rate and then refinance or sell before you reach the adjustment period.
  • Low introductory payments: Locking in a low monthly payment for five years (or more) can free up funds for other purposes. And if you expect to earn a higher salary in the future, a higher monthly payment in the future may be less daunting.
  • Rates and monthly payments may decrease: There's always the chance that your rate and payment could go down -- though that's more likely if you bought or refinanced your home at a time when rates were high.

Reasons to avoid an adjustable-rate mortgage

While ARMs offer some material benefits, the risks are significant. (In fact, ARMs played a role in the 2008 financial crisis, before which they were marketed to homebuyers who did not understand the risks. The good news is ARMs are more tightly regulated now and that the riskiest versions have been retired. 

"The two big ways ARMs have changed since the mortgage crisis is in product and prevalence," says Swaleh. "Prior to the 2008-2011 collapse, ARMs made up a sizable portion of all mortgages originated. Today, they do not. In 2020, my team did 540 loan transactions. Not a single one of them was an ARM. As far as products go, the two most dangerous products (interest-only and negative-amortization loans) are far less available."

Still, there are some serious disadvantages to consider before taking on an ARM:

  • Monthly payments can increase: This is the most obvious risk you're taking with an ARM, and it can be significant -- even if your loan has caps. Make sure you understand your ARM's indexes and caps so you can calculate potential future payments.
  • Negative amortization: As noted, payment caps can create a dangerous situation in which your loan balance can actually increase if you're not paying enough toward the principal.
  • Difficult to build into a budget: You may have good reason to believe that your income will increase or rates will go down, but if 2020 taught us anything, it's that nobody can perfectly predict what will happen in the next few years. Could you handle a payment increase even without a raise? Do you have money saved in case you were to lose your job or take in less income? If not, then you may want to think twice about an ARM.

How to apply for an adjustable-rate mortgage

If you decide to apply for an ARM, you'll find the steps are basically the same as they would be for any loan, but you should proceed with a little extra caution.

  1. First, review your credit and clean up any errors. If you need to improve your credit to increase your chances of locking in a better introductory rate, you may want to wait a few months.
  2. Determine what you can afford in terms of money down and monthly payments. Remember that the latter can change with an ARM, so be sure you are planning with this in mind.
  3. Get loan estimates from several lenders so you can compare rates, fees and closing costs. If you apply with several lenders within a short period (usually 30 days or less), the credit checks won't count as multiple inquiries on your credit report.
  4. Ask lenders about important aspects of ARM loans such as rate caps, negative amortization, discount points and the index used to determine your rate. Make sure you have all of this information before moving forward.
  5. Compare ARM terms to your fixed-rate options. Even if you're convinced an ARM is the best option for you, it's always helpful to explore all of your options before making a large financial decision.
  6. Get preapproved for an ARM. Next, you'll want to begin the application process and get preapproved so you can determine how much house you can comfortably afford.
  7. Finalize your ARM paperwork. Once you've been preapproved and decided on a lender, it's time to select the product that's best for your financial situation and sign your loan paperwork.

Home Price Growth Slows for Second Month in a Row. Here's What Home Buyers Should Know

Home price growth slowed again in May, a sign that the US housing market may be starting to cool off. 

This marks the second straight month that home price growth has slowed in response to economic pressures like rising interest rates and inflation. Price growth was 19.7% in May, down slightly from April's 20.6% increase, according to the S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller National Home Price Index, a leading measure of US home prices

"Housing data for May 2022 continued strong, as price gains decelerated slightly from very high levels," said Craig Lazarra, managing director at S&P DJI, in a release. "Despite this deceleration, growth rates are still extremely robust."

A related composite, which measures real estate values in the top 20 cities in the US, rose 20.5%, down from 21.2% in April, with all cities experiencing double-digit price increases. Four of the 20 cities saw bigger price increases year over year in May 2022 than in April.

Tampa, Miami and Dallas saw the highest year-over-year gains among the 20 cities in May. Tampa saw price growth of 36.1%, with Miami seeing a 34% increase and Dallas experiencing a 30.8% growth rate year over year. Overall, price growth remains the strongest in the South and Southeast, with both regions seeing gains of 30.7% year over year. Still, as the Federal Reserve continues to raise interest rates, the slight deceleration in national growth shows that the housing market may finally be starting to slowly cool off

"Mortgage financing has become more expensive as the Federal Reserve ratchets up interest rates," said Lazarra. "Accordingly, a more-challenging macroeconomic environment may not support extraordinary home price growth for much longer."

It's important to understand what's going on the housing market before deciding if now is the right time to buy a home.

Mortgage rates have been rapidly climbing since the beginning of 2022, and currently sit at 5.70% for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage. While still low, that's a sharp increase from the average 3% rates we started the year with. Mortgage rates have gone up indirectly as a result of the Federal Reserve raising the federal funds rates several times this year to counteract record-breaking high inflation. Another rate hike is expected Wednesday.

As rates climb, it becomes more expensive to buy a home. This drives down home competition and may price some buyers out of the market. As buying demand decreases, home price increases typically slow or decline.

While home prices are still high, if you're shopping for a home, you may have access to more home inventory and face less competition. With the Fed expected to raise rates again this year, you could also lock in a lower interest rate now, potentially saving you tens of thousands in interest over the lifetime of your home loan.

Panasonic To Start Tesla 4680 Cell Production in March of 2024, Report Says

Tesla has made a big deal out of its new 4680 battery cell design, claiming it will both increase the range of its vehicles and reduce the cost-per-kilowatt of its battery packs. It's been working on finalizing the design and production process for these new cells at a pilot plant in California, but now, according to a report published on Monday by Reuters, there's a production start date in sight.

Only, it isn't Tesla's 4680 start date that we now know. Instead, it's Panasonic's. Panasonic has long been Tesla's battery production partner of choice, and the Japanese giant will kick off its 4680 production in March of 2024. Tesla is already building Model Ys at its Austin, Texas plant with 4680s from its pilot plant.

The 4680 cell, so-named because its 46 millimeters in diameter and 80 millimeters tall, features several design innovations over the more conventional 18650 and 2170 cells that Tesla uses in its vehicles now. The biggest is that the 4680 is a tabless design that reduces the number of production steps and cuts back on the cost-per-cell, thanks to fewer parts being necessary. The tabless design is also allegedly more electrically efficient, accounting for the claimed 16% range increase.

Panasonic is already cranking out cells like crazy for Tesla and other partners, so this move into 4680 production will necessitate an expansion of its facilities. The company is already planning on adding two new production lines to its Wakayama factory to accommodate.

We reached out to Panasonic for comment but didn't hear back in time for publication.
