Deleting Your Twitter? Here's How to Archive Your Tweets and DMs Before You Leave

Elon Musk's deal to purchase Twitter for $44 billion is moving along, and not everyone is happy with the move. It's why some people are considering deleting their accounts and permanently leaving the popular social media service. If you're thinking about finally leaving the bird app for good, you should look into archiving all of your tweets and direct messages before you go.

Deleting Twitter isn't just getting rid of your account. It means losing all thousands or more of your witty jokes, scathing comments and boisterous replies -- not to mention any photos, videos and GIFs you've posted along the way. Fortunately, Twitter makes it easy to download a complete archive of your account that includes all of your past tweets and direct messages.

All you need to do is request the information from Twitter, and you'll then be sent a file, which you can download to view all of your data from Twitter -- for all time. Here's everything you need to know about requesting and viewing your Twitter archive.

How to request a copy of your Twitter data

The process of requesting your archive can only be done via the Twitter website, so I would suggest doing it on your desktop, but it can also easily be done on your phone or tablet. We'll cover both options below.

If you're on a mobile device, launch the Twitter app and tap your profile photo on the top-left to bring up the side menu. Next, scroll down and go to Settings and privacy > Your account > Download an archive of your data. This will launch an in-app browser, redirecting you to the Twitter website. Log in to the Twitter account you want your data from and tap Request archive.

On desktop, the process is pretty similar. Go to Twitter, tap on More and then go to Settings and privacyYour account > Download an archive of yourdata. Enter your password as needed and click Request archive.

After you verify your account, the request will be processed and you'll see a message stating it can take up to 24 hours for Twitter to process it.

What to do once your Twitter Archive is ready

Twitter will send you a push alert via the Twitter app as well as an email letting you know when your data is ready to download. Follow the link in the email or alert, which will direct you back to the Settings page on Twitter's website. Download your archive and unzip the compressed file.

Inside the folder you'll find a file titled Your Archive. It's an HTML file, so it should open a new tab in your default browser. It's not actually loading a website. Instead, it's giving you a streamlined way to view your Twitter account. Everything on the page should be interactive. 

For example, if you click on Tweets, you'll be taken to a Twitter-like view of your posts. There's a search tool on the side of the page that will make it easier to find a specific post. 

Alternatively, you can open the Data folder where you'll find media folders that contain photos, videos and GIFs you've sent or received on Twitter, Moments, direct messages or Fleets.

Intel Pledges to Cut Greenhouse Gas Emissions to Zero by 2040

Intel said on Wednesday it will cut its overall greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2040, the latest pledge by a Silicon Valley giant to address climate change.

The chipmaker's plan means a $300 million investment in energy conservation measures like facility upgrades to reduce power consumption. It also requires changes so chip manufacturing won't release as much carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that trap heat from the sun in the Earth's atmosphere.

Intel details its carbon emissions in annual corporate responsibility reports. In its most recent, it estimated its emissions for 2020 to be the equivalent of 3 million metric tons of carbon dioxide. That's equivalent to the emissions produced by more than 646,000 cars each year.

"We are committing to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions across our operations by 2040," CEO Pat Gelsinger said in a video message about the plan. The emissions reduction will come despite Intel's dramatically expanding operations, including two new "megafab" manufacturing sites the company is building in Ohio and Germany, he said.

Intel's net zero pledge comes after other tech giants have committed to reduce carbon emissions. Two years ago, Apple promised to reach carbon neutrality by 2030, for example. Microsoft is shooting to reach carbon negative by reversing carbon emissions for its corporate lifetime. Google says it's already eliminated its carbon legacy.

Curbing the release of greenhouse gases, particularly carbon dioxide released by burning coal and gasoline, has taken on increasing urgency. Rising temperatures have caused extreme weather events to occur more often, rising sea levels and shrinking biodiversity, according to a February Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report reviewing decades of research. Some companies are curtailing emissions to try to help limit global warming to an average of 1.5 degrees Celsius, a goal that has become harder every year but remains with reach.

One challenge Intel faces that most Silicon Valley peers don't is emissions of particularly potent greenhouse gases, including perfluorocarbons it uses to etch circuitry onto microchips. To reduce their climate impact, Intel often burns such gases, says Chief Sustainability Officer Todd Brady. But that still releases carbon dioxide.

"To get to zero, we need to fundamentally think differently about how we've done things so far," Brady said in an interview. The company will push the industry to research and adopt different chemistries for semiconductor manufacturing, he said.

PFCs like sulfur hexafluoride are emitted in relatively small amounts compared with carbon dioxide, but they "are among the most potent greenhouse gases," the US Environmental Protection Agency says. They're typically thousands of times more potent than carbon dioxide, in part because they remain in the atmosphere for thousands of years.

Brady likened the effort to replace PFCs with an earlier chip industry move away from chlorofluorocarbons, which were found to be destroying the Earth's protective ozone layer. Replacing PFCs likely will take a decade, he said.

Cutting greenhouse gas emissions is crucial to combat climate change. Some technology companies like Climeworks, Charm Industrial and CarbonCapture, want to go further by capturing carbon dioxide from the air.

That's been difficult and costly, but a new effort called Frontier, a subsidiary of payments processor Stripe, has secured commitment from Google, Facebook, Shopify and others to spend $925 million on carbon capture services by 2030. 

Intel will cut its direct emissions in other ways. It already uses 100% renewable energy in the US, a practice it will adopt in Israel, Malaysia and other countries.

Reducing a company's climate footprint is complicated. Such efforts have three categories: a company's own direct emissions, called Scope 1; indirect emissions from power the company uses, or Scope 2; and the vastly broader emissions from a company's suppliers and customers, called Scope 3. In Intel's case, that includes factors like materials suppliers' operations and the power consumed by millions of Intel-powered PCs in homes and servers in data centers.

Intel's net zero pledge is aimed only at scopes 1 and 2. The company is working on Scope 3, though, by improving the energy efficiency of its products. It already ranks suppliers in part by scoring their sustainability efforts.

Scope 3 emissions are a big deal. According to Intel's latest corporate responsibility report, Intel's scope 1 and 2 emissions are an equivalent of 3 million metric tons of carbon dioxide per year, but its scope 3 emissions are 30 million metric tons.

Intel already set a earlier goal to increase its main processors' energy efficiency by a factor of 10 by 2030. On top of that, it expects a fivefold efficiency increase with the 2024 release of Falcon Shores, which combines an Intel CPU and graphics chip into a single processing package, compared to earlier PCs with separate graphics chips.

The overall work is expensive but necessary, Brady said.

Doing its part to combat climate change "is probably the biggest challenge...facing mankind right now," he said. Dealing with it is "an expectation from our customers, an expectation from investors and from our employees."

One of the best parts of Amwell is its ability to collaborate with your primary physician and other providers. You will never have to pay for duplicate prescriptions or tests, and your primary care physician will always be in the loop.

The company helps people with addiction, anxiety, depression, stress, PTSD and others. It also has the most flexible scheduling of the services on this list. 

After signing up, you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire as well as your medical history. Then, you can choose a provider that you believe best fits you. Lastly, input your preferred days and time in which you are available to meet virtually. Each psychiatrist is available seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., perfect for those who need to schedule outside working hours. 

The initial session begins at $299, and each follow-up will be $119. Services are also available in Canada.

Getting started is easy. First, take a mental health evaluation, and then Brightside will match you with a provider who will create a personalized treatment plan for you. Medication is then sent directly to your door. 

The cost varies, but the monthly subscription starts at $95 for unlimited sessions. 

Pros of Brightside :

From bumpy plane rides to long car trips and the jet lag that comes with time changes, getting proper sleep while traveling isn't always easy. This is especially true if traveling itself makes you anxious. All of these disruptions can add up to travel fatigue, which can lead you to feel groggy, cranky and exhausted. 

A full night's sleep is a crucial part of maintaining your physical and mental health. It promotes brain functions, repairs muscle tissue and boosts your mood so you can be your best self while you're away. Consider the tips below to help cure poor-sleep woes for your next trip and get better sleep while traveling.

What is travel fatigue?

Travel fatigue is the physical manifestation of travel's grievances. It can happen for instances such as: having anxiety about flying on a plane, stress from planning, long layovers, delayed flights or lack of sleep during travel. And although you're mentally drained, travel fatigue can make it more difficult to get restful sleep. 

Jet lag

Aside from travel fatigue, jet lag during travel can also make it a struggle to achieve quality sleep. Jet lag is a temporary sleeping disorder that develops when you cross time zones, and your body is thrown out of whack from its regular sleep-wake cycle. 

Our body heavily depends on outside factors like sundown, sunrise and eating times to regulate the release of melatonin. As a result, your body has a difficult time readjusting during travel, leaving you feeling tired and having difficulty concentrating. 

How to sleep better during travel 

Combat travel fatigue, jet lag and uncomfortable sleeping circumstances by following these tips. 

Prepare your body for the new schedule

Starting three days before you go, set your bedtime an hour later (depending on the time zone of where you're traveling) each day. This will help your body become accustomed to the new time change that you'll be experiencing in a few days, and allow you to fall asleep at a reasonable time when you're away. 

An exception to this rule: If you expect to be gone across time zones for only two days, stick to your regular sleeping schedule. By the time you adjust to the new time, you'll be getting ready to head back home.  

Do as the locals do

Once you arrive at your destination, try to sync up to their schedule. When people are awake in the morning and out-and-about, you should be, too. When the people around you are gearing up for bed, you should be about ready to hit-the-hay, as well. Unless your stay is two days long, this will help your body readjust even if it means you'll be half-asleep at dinner. 

Pack comfy 

Pack your comfiest clothes for travel and a pillow to sleep with if you can fit it inside your suitcase. Loose-fitting fabrics can help you feel comfortable while you travel long distances, which is key if you're hoping to get some sleep while on the road. 

A pillow can also make it easier to fall asleep. Bring a standard pillow for the back seat of a car or a C-shaped pillow to wrap around your neck while on a plane or train. 

Eat nutritiously and drink water

Staying hydrated and eating well while traveling not only will help you remain fueled up for different stages of travel, but it will also keep you from feeling hungry or thirsty if you want to doze off on the plane or in the car. 

Use light to your advantage

The sun is a signal to our circadian rhythm that it's time to be awake, and the night tells us it's time for sleep. 

If you travel from west to east, the best times of day to get light exposure are the late morning and late afternoon. That way, you stay awake and vigilant during the day, but you give your body the chance to wind down into the nighttime. If you travel from west to east, remain in the sun into the evening to help adjust to the new time.

Avoid alcohol on your first day

Hear me out. As fun as it is to get a drink on the airplane on the way to your destination or at dinner when you arrive, alcohol messes with your sleep-wake cycle. This is something you want to avoid during your first day of getting acclimated to the new time. 

Avoid caffeine and nicotine 

Caffeine and nicotine are stimulants that will make your body feel like it wants to be awake. Caffeine can stay in your system for up to five to six hours, making you feel wired when you should be winding down for bed. Nicotine, on the other hand, causes cravings and has no time limit. That means you can be laying awake in bed feeling tired, but your body stays awake wanting more nicotine.  

If you have to stay awake, keep moving

Like light, body temperature also plays an important role in regulating our sleep-wake cycles. If your body is higher in temperature, it's a signal that it's time to be awake. It's a reason why hot sleepers can have trouble getting quality sleep if they're too warm. By keeping your body in motion and your heart rate up, you can help fight grogginess and fatigue that come with travel. 

Use natural sleep aids 

Melatonin is always an option, but I'm always wary of recommending it, because it can mess with your body's natural production of melatonin. As an alternative, consider using natural sleep aids to help you fall asleep at night like herbal tea or CBD oil.

If you've ever deleted a Gmail contact and only later realized what a big mistake you've made, you can relax as long as you made the change in the last 30 days. Regardless of how many contacts you add or delete, Gmail keeps a 30-day history of every contact in your address book. So if you accidentally delete one or more, all it takes are a few clicks to bring them back.

The process makes for a somewhat blunt tool. You can't restore specific contacts, but you can retrieve every deleted contact back to a specified date. However, unless you've recently gone on a deleting spree, it shouldn't be terribly difficult to find the contact or contacts you're looking for.

This tip requires that you log into your Gmail account using a web browser -- not the Gmail mobile app. Any browser, whether you access it from your phone or laptop, will do. 

1. Open Google Contacts in your browser.

2. Tap or click on the Settings (gear) icon in the upper right corner.

3. Tap or click Undo changes.

4. Choose the timeframe you'd like to restore from, anywhere from 10 minutes to 30 days ago, then tap or click Undo.

5. Gmail will confirm by saying, "Your contacts list will be restored back to how it was on [date you chose]. It may take some time for these changes to show up on your device."

3. Select the title you'd like to watch offline. The app has you download over Wi-Fi by default, but you can go into the settings and also download over data if you prefer. This will count against any monthly data cap you may have.

4. Tap the Download icon -- it's shaped like a down-facing arrow.

Download times may vary, depending on your Wi-Fi or data network strength. As your title is downloading, you'll see a ring going around the download icon. Once the ring has fully circled, a checkmark icon replaces the download icon -- this means you can start watching the movie offline.

Where to find downloads

As with Netflix, Disney Plus stores all of your downloads in one place so you can start watching when you're offline. 

1. In the Disney Plus app, select the Download icon at the bottom of the screen. 

2. From there, you'll see everything you've downloaded. Disney doesn't apply an artificial limit to how much you download. You can download as many titles as your phone's storage space will allow.

How to delete a title from your downloads

After you've watched a movie and no longer need it taking up space on your phone, you can remove it from the downloads section. 

1. Open the app and select the Download icon at the bottom of the screen. 

2. Find the movie you want to delete and tap the Checkmark icon, located to the right of the title.

3. Select Remove Download

If you decide later that you want to watch again, you can always download your film or TV show again.

Nokia Puts Emphasis on Sustainability With Recycled Phones and Subscription Model

Nokia has taken the wraps off a range of new handsets with a stronger environmental focus, including recycled plastics and metals, alongside a subscription service that aims to keep phones in use for longer -- and out of landfills. 

The X30 5G is the hero of the lineup, packing a 6.43-inch AMOLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 processor, 6GB or 8GB of RAM and a capacious 4,300mAh battery. On the back is a 50-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization and a second 13-megapixel ultrawide camera alongside. Pretty midrange specs but then this phone will only cost £399 in the UK if you buy it outright. There's no word on US availability for Nokia's new phones, but that UK price converts to $462. 

Crucially, though, it's made with a 100% recycled aluminum frame and a plastic back made with 60% recycled materials. Nokia also promises three years of security updates to keep it safer to use for longer. That's not bad, but other companies -- including Samsung -- are now offering more here, so it'd be good to see Nokia pushing the boat out. It'd also be nice to see the recycled plastic percentage hitting that sweet 100% mark.

The G60 is also 5G-enabled, and has a similar environmental focus including a 60% recycled plastic frame and 100% recycled back. Other key specs include a 6.5-inch display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 processor, 50-megapixel main rear camera and 5-megapixel ultrawide. It'll go on sale for £249 ($288).

Or you can buy the phones through Nokia's new Circular subscription service, which lets you get the X30 for £25 per month or the G60 for £12.50 per month. The service lets you get the phone without a hefty up-front cost and rewards you with "seeds" (credits to donate to environmental causes) the longer you keep using the phone. At such point as you're done with the phone it will go back to Nokia to either be recycled, donated or refurbished and go back in the Circular pool. It's an interesting idea and could be a good way of putting a new phone in your pocket with less of a dent in your bank balance. 

The Circular subscription is currently only available in the UK, but we'll keep you updated as and when we hear about any plans to bring it to the US.
