Repair Shops Could Fix iPhone Face ID Issues Without Swapping Out Whole Device
If you walked into a gadget repair shop to get your iPhone's FaceID cameras fixed, you probably had to get your entire phone replaced. But fix-it shops may get access to Apple parts and hand back your same device after a simple fix.
Apple will soon give authorized repair centers and individuals access to TrueDepth Camera parts that iPhones use for Face ID functionality, according to a memo seen by MacRumors. The shops could swap out the part instead of the whole phone, which would help reduce the carbon footprint of each iPhone.
Only iPhone XS and newer Apple phones will qualify for the repairs, according to MacRumors, despite Face ID debuting on the iPhone X.
It's unclear when this new repair option will be available, but the report only mentioned giving access to authorized repair shops, not to individuals who'll be able to fix their own iPhones once Apple's do-it-yourself repair program, announced last November, goes live. Self Service Repair, as it's called, lets customers buy parts from Apple and download official repair manuals online, but it wasn't clear how many components and processes would be available, and it's possible the TrueDepth Camera parts won't be included.

Ahead of Samsung Unpacked next week, a listing for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 appears to have popped up on Amazon Netherlands. The listing for the unannounced phone, reported earlier by 9to5Google, doesn't include a price but reveals plenty of details.
Images in the listing show the foldable phone with the same screen sizes at its predecessor, with a 6.2-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner display. Both displays will have a 120Hz refresh rate, according to the listing.
A new S Pen case for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is also shown off in the listing, and it appears to adjust the position where the stylus is stored compared with the Z Fold 3 case.
Alongside the S Pen case and display details, Amazon Netherlands has listed the color for the new phone as beige. However, this color name might not be final. One of the images with the listing also shows the phone in a black or dark gray color, while the new S Pen case appears to be gray with a hint of green.
The images in the listing also revealed new software for Samsung phones. While the specific details of the software that will be loaded onto the Galaxy Z Fold 4 are not listed on Amazon Netherlands, the photos bear a striking resemblance to the teaser photos of Android 12L. Android announced its 12L software late last year, and promised updates for foldable phones.
However, there are some slight differences between the photos included in the listing and the 12L teaser photos. The photos included in the listing showcase a couple of additional buttons on the taskbar. It will be hard to know for sure what the software that is advertised in the listing actually is until Samsung Unpacked, when the company is likely to give details on new releases like the Galaxy Z Fold 4.
Samsung Unpacked is set to take place Aug.10 and is expected to give consumers official information on the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Samsung is also rumored to announce the Galaxy Watch 5 and the successors to the Galaxy Bud 2 earbuds.
Samsung didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Why did Microsoft end support for Windows 7?
Microsoft has a long-established Fixed Lifestyle Policy for many of its products. For each version of its OS, the company offers a minimum of 10 years of support (at least five years of Mainstream support, followed by five years of Extended support). Both types include security and program updates, self-help online topics and extra help you can pay for.
Windows 7 was released in October 2009, so its 10-year life cycle has come to a close. Windows 10 was released in 2015, and extended support for the latest version of the OS is slated to end in 2025.

Will my Windows 7 computer stop working?
Your Windows 7 computer will keep working, but Microsoft won't provide security updates or fixes, or technical support for any issues -- leaving your computer at greater risk from viruses and malware that may circulate to take advantage of any flaws that are later discovered.

Do I have to make the switch to Windows 10?

Isn't Windows 10 pretty buggy?
Some people have been hesitant to make the switch due to reports of several bugs in earlier versions of Windows 10. But Microsoft has made several changes to its update approach since then. The biggest change came with the May 2019 release, including slower rollouts with additional testing, more options for pausing updates and more disclosure of known issues, so your experience should be smoother.
Many of the issues were due to the fact that updates are happening more frequently, said Gartner Research analyst Steve Kleynhans. "But overall most users seem pretty happy with the OS and like the experience it brings, especially on newer devices," he added.

What's the difference between Windows 7 and Windows 10, anyway?
Besides a suite of security tools, Windows 10 also offers more features. One is the Your Phone app, which allows you to access texts, notifications and apps from your phone using your PC -- similar to Apple's Continuity features. A feature called Calls allows you to place and answer Android calls on your PC (and you can connect your iPhone to your Windows PC as well). A dictation feature lets you easily record ideas.
Microsoft's digital assistant Cortana is also available on Windows 10 PCs. The OS also integrates better with Microsoft OneDrive and other cloud tools.

The most recent Windows 10 November 2021 update includes features like new Wi-Fi security standards and other changes aimed at management and security.
Unlike previous versions of the OS, Windows 10 offers automatic updates by default, to keep systems more secure. (You can turn these off if you want to, by going to Windows Update Settings > Advanced Options and changing from Automatic to another option in the drop-down menu.)

Nebraska Police Obtained Facebook Messages About Teen's Alleged Abortion
Facebook parent Meta provided Nebraska police with messages between a teenager accused of having an illegal abortion and her mother after the social media giant was served with a search warrant, court documents show.
Police in Norfolk, Nebraska, started the investigation in April before the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 decision that established abortion rights. The Supreme Court's decision has sparked concerns about how online data could be used as criminal evidence against people seeking abortions.
The Lincoln Journal Star earlier reported that 41-year-old Jessica Burgess is facing criminal charges for allegedly helping her daughter, who was 17 years old at the time, abort, burn and bury her fetus. The mother pleaded not guilty, and will face a trial in Madison County District Court. (CNET isn't identifying the daughter, who was a minor at the time of the alleged abortion.)
The teenager told a Norfolk Police detective that she miscarried and gave birth to a stillborn, court documents say. Nebraska bars most abortions 20 weeks after fertilization and police determined from the teen's medical records that she was more than 23 weeks pregnant at the time.
When the detective interviewed the teenager about the timing of the miscarriage, the teen scrolled through messages on her Facebook Messenger account from April, when she was trying to get her mother's attention. The detective then identified the mother and daughter's Facebook accounts.
"I know from prior training and experience, and conversations with other seasoned criminal investigators, that people involved in criminal activity frequently have conversations regarding their criminal activities through various social networking sites, i.e. Facebook," Ben McBride, a detective for the Norfolk Police Division, said in an affidavit supporting the search warrant to Meta. The document states the detective believes the premises of Meta "are being used for the purpose of securing or keeping evidence related to Prohibited Acts with Skeletal Remains."
The detective outlined the Facebook data he was seeking related to the investigation, including photos and private messages. The police were then able to seize more than 250,000 kilobytes of data tied to the teenager's Facebook account, including account information, images, videos and messages, and more than 50,000 KB of data associated with Jessica Burgess' account, according to court documents.
The Facebook messages suggested that Jessica Burgess had given her daughter instructions about how to take abortion pills after obtaining them, the Lincoln Journal Star reported. After police obtained the Facebook messages, Jessica Burgess faced two more felony charges for allegedly performing or attempting an abortion on a pregnancy at more than 20 weeks and performing an abortion as a non-licensed doctor, The Lincoln Journal Star reported. Burgess and her daughter faced other charges in June, including removing, concealing or abandoning a dead human body.
Meta didn't answer questions about how many of these types of requests it's received.
Meta spokesman Andy Stone told Forbes that he couldn't immediately confirm any details about the incident. He tweeted late Tuesday that the company received the warrants in June before the Supreme Court overturned Roe V. Wade.
"The warrants concerned charges related to a criminal investigation and court documents indicate that police at the time were investigating the case of a stillborn baby who was burned and buried, not a decision to have an abortion," Stone tweeted.
Motherboard earlier obtained documents about the case that included the messages between the mother and daughter.
Neither the mother nor the daughter immediately responded to request for comment.
The police and Meta's actions have sparked more scrutiny over the social network, which has been plagued with data privacy scandals. On Tuesday, some Twitter users were urging women to #DeleteFacebook and the hashtag was trending.
Civil rights advocacy group Color of Change also raised concerns that "anti-abortion extremists" would use social media to "coordinate the harassment and bounty hunting of people seeking abortions."
Messages on Facebook Messenger aren't encrypted by default, which would prevent Facebook or anyone else from viewing the messages. Facebook Messenger users can send encrypted messaged by turning on a feature known as secret conversations.

The Kia Telluride was last shown amidst the glitz and glamor of New York Fashion Week, but the automaker clearly wants to emphasize the upcoming model's ruggedness, too. Kia said in a press release today it will bring four modified Telluride concepts to SEMA and let attendees ride in them on a "Torque Track" off-road course set up outside the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The production Kia Telluride, due to debut at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show, won't look quite so rugged as this concept.

If you're all excited about doing extreme off-roading in your own Telluride, Kia's vice president of marketing communications, Saad Chehab, is here to temper your expectations: "Of course a production Telluride won't be able to fly over extreme jumps like these modified versions, but we want the SEMA attendees to get to know Kia as the youthful brand we are." Ah well.
Still, each of the Kia Tellurides on display at SEMA have been extensively modified for duties away from paved roads. California's LGE-CTS Motorsports widened the SUVs' track by 3 inches front and rear, designed new control arms, and installed KW Motorsports coilovers. Suspension travel increased by 2 inches in front and 1.5 inches in back, while reinforced front strut towers help keep the SUVs from twisting too much.
Each of the four concepts has a different look and personality. The Telluride Horizon Roamer, for instance, is painted bright orange and wears new wheels with 32-inch off-road tires, a snorkel to aid with water fording, a roof-mounted cargo rack, a brush guard, a skid plate and a "straight-pipe" exhaust, which will surely make its V6 engine all the louder. Kia says this concept is meant to highlight the type of vehicle that could tackle the Rubicon Trail.
The Kia Telluride Cadet Leader, meanwhile, is optimized for different types of off-roading. It, too, has 32-inch tires and a louder exhaust, along with a roof rack, a tubular-style rear bumper and military-style matte-black-and-green paint. The Telluride Desert Drifter concept is equipped very similarly, albeit with black-and-tan paint and a new LED light bar. Finally, the Telluride Baja Glider features the 32-inch tires, tubular front and rear bumpers, skid plates and two extra LED light bars.
Technically, of course, both the Telluride shown at New York Fashion Week and the one seen back in January at the Detroit Auto Show were concepts. However, Kia promises we'll see the final, finished-production version of the SUV at the upcoming Detroit show in January 2019, with the new model set to go on sale in the first half of next year.

Grounding yourself makes a big difference when you're feeling anxious. To do that, you can use the 5-4-3-2-1 method:
Look around and spot five individual things.
Touch four things near you.
Acknowledge three things you can hear.
Identify two smells.
Check in with your mouth for one thing you can taste.
By tapping into your senses, you're bringing yourself back to the present moment and anchoring yourself there. Don't be afraid to walk around to get all 5-4-3-2-1 things named. Take your time and use this as a way to help yourself relax.
Distract yourself

Perhaps the biggest breaking news to come out of last week's The Game Awards show was Sepiroth, the villain from perennial fan favourite Final Fantasy VII, being added to Super Smash Bros. as a playable character.
But what about the rest of the squad from Final Fantasy VII? When can we play as them?

Today, during a Thursday livestream revealing more details about Sepiroth's inclusion in Super Smash Bros., game director Masahiro Sakurai also revealed that Tifa, Barret and Aerith would also be making an appearance in the game, albeit in a slightly less significant form.
They're going to be alternate Mii fighter costumes.
If you don't play Super Smash Bros. this will be difficult to explain, but I'm going to try my darnedest.
In Super Smash Bros. video game characters fight each other. Mario, Yoshi and host of characters including Solid Snake, Sonic and -- now -- Sepiroth face off in endless bouts of fun cartoon violence.
One of those characters are the Mii. The customisable characters first introduced on the Nintendo Wii.
All characters in Smash Bros have alternate costumes, but in Super Smash Bros. the Mii have especially wild alternate costumes.
So now we have alternate Barret, Tifa and Aerith costumes in Smash that look like this...
