Splatoon 3 is only two weeks away from launching on the Nintendo Switch, but you have a chance to sample the game early right now with the Splatfest World Premiere demo. This free, limited-time demo event takes place today only and lets all Switch owners get some hands-on time with the colorful team shooter ahead of its release.

What is the Splatfest World Premiere?
The Splatfest World Premiere is a demo-slash-beta test for Splatoon 3. Players who download the demo now can explore the game's main hub area, Splatsville, and take part in a brief tutorial that explains the basics of gameplay. Then, on Aug. 27, Nintendo will be hosting the headlining attraction: Splatoon 3's first "Splatfest," a type of in-game event in which you pick a team and earn points for your side by playing in Turf War matches.
When does the Splatfest World Premiere start?
The Splatfest World Premiere demo will be playable starting Aug. 25, but the Splatfest itself takes place Saturday, Aug. 27. In the Americas, the event will kick off at 9 a.m. PT (12 p.m. ET) and run for 12 hours, wrapping up at 9 p.m. PT (12 a.m. ET).
Unlike Splatfests in previous Splatoon games, the World Premiere event will be divided up into two halves. During the first half of the Splatfest (until 3 p.m. PT), players will take part in traditional four-versus-four Turf War battles. During the remainder of the event, however, you'll be pit in new Tricolor Turf Wars. Four players from the first place team and two players from the second and third place sides will compete in a three-way battle.
How do I join the Splatfest?
To join the Splatfest World Premiere, all you need to do is download the free demo client from the Nintendo eShop and log in during the event hours.
Do I need Nintendo Switch Online?
Since the Splatfest is an online event, you'll need to have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to participate. If you're not already a member, Nintendo is giving everyone who installs the demo a free seven-day trial to the service.
You'll receive the free trial code via email after downloading the demo client. The code can be redeemed through the Nintendo eShop, but it will expire on Aug. 31, so you'll need to use it before then if you're hoping to take advantage of the free trial.
What do you do in the Splatfest?
In previous games, Splatfests traditionally asked you to join one of two opposing sides and duke it out for supremacy. Splatoon 3 is shaking things up a bit by giving you three different teams to choose from, but the basics are otherwise the same. Head to the Splatfest terminal in the Splatsville plaza, choose which side you want to rep, and then jump into online matches to earn points for your team.
For the Splatfest World Premiere, Nintendo is asking players to determine, once and for all, which is best: rock, paper or scissors?
Keep in mind that your Splatfest decision is final. Once you choose a side, you can't switch teams, so think carefully before making your selection.
Once the Splatfest is live, you can jump into Splatoon's signature online mode: Turf War. Unlike a typical online shooter, the objective of this mode is not to eliminate the other team, but rather to cover more of the map with your ink. The team that has inked the most turf at the end of three minutes will win the match.
Treehouse Live Stream
Ahead of the Splatfest World Premiere, Nintendo aired a Treehouse: Live stream featuring Splatoon 3 on Aug. 25. The stream provided a closer look at the game's single-player mode, as well as a couple of stages that will be featured during Saturday's Splatfest. Nintendo also showcased new gameplay for Square Enix's upcoming fantasy farming sim, Harvestella.

Nintendo has a variety of free updates planned for Splatoon 3 following its release, including new stages, weapons and modes. The company also teased a "major" paid DLC expansion that will feature Splatoon 2's popular idols, Pearl and Marina, although no other details about it have been announced yet.

LG Gram 16 2-in-1 (2022) Review: Light, Long Battery Life and a Big Display
The LG Gram 16 2-in-1 is an excellent pick for the same reasons as past Gram laptops and two-in-ones: It's lightweight, it has long battery life and it has an excellent display. For the Gram 16 2-in-1, you'll get a 16-inch 2,560x1,600-resolution, pen-enabled touch display with 300-nit brightness and approximately 99% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage. Battery life reached nearly 13 hours, outlasting competitors in its class. And despite its size, it is compact, slim and weighs about 3.3 pounds (1.5 kilograms).
Updated with a 12th-gen Intel Core i7 processor, the 2022 model has respectable productivity performance too. If you're looking to tackle typical home, office or school tasks on a bigger screen without sacrificing mobility or battery life, the LG Gram 16 2-in-1 has you covered. However, it does have a handful of shortcomings, not least of which is the price.
The Gram 16 2-in-1 starts at $1,500 with a 12th-gen Core i7 processor, integrated graphics, 16GB of memory and a 512GB SSD for storage. This is the model I tested and it's currently only available from Costco. LG offers configurations with 1TB or 2TB of storage. The 2TB version is $2,100, which is a lot to pay for a storage bump. It does include a $300 portable 16-inch USB-C monitor, which is great if you want to double your display space even when you travel. The 1TB configuration is available in the UK for £1,733. The 2-in-1 is currently not available in Australia, but the UK price converts to AU$3,045.

At $1,500, the Gram 16 isn't exactly overpriced for what you're getting, but it's no bargain either. However, Costco at the moment has it discounted to $1,200, which actually is a good buy and worth jumping on if this model lines up with your needs. And if you're reading this and it's not currently available, it's worth waiting for a price drop.
Also, despite the premium price, there is some bloatware you might want to remove. It's not a lot and a couple of preloaded programs, like Wacom's notepad app Bamboo Paper and LG Glance (which uses presence detection for privacy and security features), are useful. But I could do without stuff like Alexa for PC and McAfee Live Safe on a $1,500 laptop.
The LG Gram 16 2-in-1 does have the look and feel of a premium laptop. Well, as long as you don't touch it with your bare hands. The matte black finish manages to pick up every last fingerprint and it takes a serious wipe down to get rid of them all.
The chassis is made from magnesium alloy. That keeps it lightweight but doesn't give it the solid feel or stiffness of an aluminum laptop. There is noticeable flex in the keyboard deck and lid (you definitely want to avoid picking this up one-handed by the display). Still, as with other Grams, it is strong enough to pass seven military-grade durability tests including shock and vibration, so it's built for a commute or travel.
You'll need to wear gloves to keep the Gram 16 looking this clean.

In general, 15- and 16-inch two-in-ones are too big and heavy to use handheld in tablet mode. This LG is at least tolerable due to its weight and the screen's 16:10 aspect ratio, which makes it less awkward to hold vertically than a 16:9 display.
The Gram 16 2-in-1 is still best suited for use on a desk or lap in tablet mode, and LG includes an active pen if you want to write or draw on the screen. Unfortunately, the pen doesn't store in the body or even magnetically attach like models from Samsung and HP.
The display and pen make this Gram an excellent digital whiteboard.

The screen also flexes when you put pressure on it with the pen, making it a little less enjoyable to use. If you use it in tent or stand mode, though, this is not an issue. Plus, the size makes it excellent for presentations and as a digital whiteboard.
This Gram is great as just a straight-up laptop, too. (You might not want to use it on your lap, though. It gets uncomfortably warm, and there's even a note on the bottom of the Gram to use it on a flat and hard surface.) The backlit keyboard has a comfortable firmness to the keys and a fair amount of travel. The function keys are also mapped for shortcuts: For example, pressing the F4 key lets you kill the mic and webcam. The webcam itself is good with a 1080p resolution, giving video chats some added clarity and detail.

The touchpad is 16:10 to match the display, but its increased size and position puts much of it under your right palm. This can lead to accidental brushes or clicks if you tend to drag your right palm while typing. The precision touchpad is otherwise nice to use.
LG skimps some on ports compared to the clamshell version of the Gram 16. It does have two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, but they're both on the left side, which means you lose flexibility when it comes to charging and connecting a monitor. There's no HDMI out and only one USB-A port; the LG Gram 16 laptop has an HDMI 2.0 and two USB-A ports.
The Gram 16 2-in-1 doesn't have an HDMI out like the Gram 16 clamshell version.

Performance from the LG Gram 16 2-in-1 was right where it should be for its components. (You can see how it stacks up compared to similarly configured systems in the performance charts below.) With its 12th-gen i7 processor and 16GB of high-speed memory, it's plenty for productivity tasks, light photo and video editing and entertainment.
However, it is a champ when it comes to battery life. It reached 12 hours, 47 minutes on our streaming video battery drain test with brightness and audio set to 50%. With some power management, getting through a workday is possible, and the Gram charges quickly too.
Again, if your main needs are good battery life, a big display and mobility with strong processing performance for productivity, the LG Gram 16 2-in-1 has you covered. But I'd wait for a sale.

The 700 Series From Ride1Up: An E-Bike to Replace Your Car
The Ride1Up 700 Series electric bike is an absolute unit of a bicycle that's so impressive it's kind of made my car obsolete. And with gas prices where they are these days, that is a huge deal to me.
The bike features large 27.5-by-2.4-inch tires – not the largest you'll find, but definitely wider than your typical off-road bike. These tires, along with the hydraulic shocks mean this bike feels smooth over a large variety of terrain. And as someone who usually rides a basic road bike, my usual routes felt night-and-day different.
The 700 Series includes a massive 48-volt battery powering a 750-watt motor, which means it can last a long time. The battery can be charged while connected to the bike, but can also be taken off to charge elsewhere or just for safekeeping. I'm not a huge fan of its location being under the bike's frame, however. This makes access a tad more difficult compared to other bikes I've used, where the battery's on top.
The battery powers the bike's five levels of pedal assist but when it's not on, the 700 Series feels just like riding a traditional bike with a 1-by-8 gear range. But what's really exciting is, you can skip pedaling entirely and use its throttle to propel you, quickly accelerating up to around 21 mph. The throttle uses about twice as much juice compared to the pedal assist, so take that into account when planning a longer trip. Using the throttle is perfect if you just finished an intense leg day session at the gym or maybe a couple of hours of ultimate frisbee and pedaling home to any degree just feels like a chore. I also found the throttle super-useful when kicking off from a stop and wanting to get up to speed as quickly as possible. And it's a total game-changer when it comes to hills and you're worried about how hard the first few seconds of pedaling will be before the cadence sensor kicks in and provides any assist.
The 700 Series comes in two colors, blue and gray, and two frame configurations -- the ST and XR.
The ST is a step-through frame with no horizontal top tube , so you don't have to lift your leg over the rear wheel to get on and off the bike. This also lets you easily stand and straddle the bike when you're not riding. I tested the XR frame which does have a top tube, and even though the tube does dip down, it was still too high for me to comfortably bring my foot forward through. If I had the rear rack loaded up with stuff, swinging my leg up and behind it might not even be an option. The top tube does make it easier to pick up and carry the bike around, however, which is great since it weighs more than 60 pounds. And if I had a bike rack for my car, this would allow it to secure much more easily than the ST frame. Side note: The XR frame bikes look cooler, too.
The 700 Series also comes with a number of accessories right out of the box. These include the previously mentioned rear rack, which has a weight limit of 50 pounds. With its three elastic straps you can quickly secure most bags or boxes. The bike also has front and rear fenders, as well as a kickstand, which you wouldn't think is a big deal, but you'd be surprised how many bikes don't come with one. Front and rear lights are also included that attach to the frame (no worries about someone sliding off and stealing after-market lights) and they're controlled through the bike's handlebar display.
The color display unit is located on the left-hand side, just above the throttle. Plus and minus buttons adjust the amount of pedal assist. Press and hold down the plus button and the front and rear lights kick on while simultaneously switching the display to a more nighttime-friendly mode. The power button, aside from turning the battery on and off, cycles through things like your max speed, average miles per hour, length of ride and an odometer. The screen also shows the current pedal-assist level, ride distance, battery level and current speed. One last thing: Holding down the minus button activates a walk mode to give you a power assist when walking the bike.

The biggest drawback of the 700 Series is its weight. This bike weighs 62 pounds, which is a lot for a bicycle. I go to the gym a lot, and I only say this to brag a little, but I'm in pretty good shape and even I had a hard time carrying this bike upstairs to my apartment. Coming home after long sessions of exercising or playing some sports makes lugging this thing around a real hassle. I need to store my bike inside, so when you combine this with how large the bike is, I just can't see it fitting into my lifestyle. Obviously, if you can store it outside or in a garage, this is less of an issue. Many electric bikes are heavy, though, so it's definitely something to keep in mind when you're considering an e-bike.
Speaking of which, if you're ordering this bike online, it was the most difficult bike I've ever put together. Most bikes I've tested usually just require a couple protruding components, like the handlebars and pedals, to be screwed in place. Not this one. Pretty much every part of it needs to be attached or wired together. If you're not comfortable assembling a bike, then I would recommend bringing it to a shop to have someone with experience handle it. Ride1Up does have a YouTube video showing assembly instructions that I found very helpful, more so than the included paper instructions, but it was still a pain.
The 700 Series retails for $1,700, which might sound pricey but is pretty reasonable for all the features you're getting. And if you start riding this instead of driving a car, the gas savings alone will be significant. It's also worth noting that Ride1Up still sells its 500 Series e-bikes, which go for just under $1,500. Both models are pretty similar, but the 700 Series has higher-quality components. Some other trade-offs include a slightly less-powerful battery that isn't as integrated into the frame, a less aesthetically pleasing display and no rear light. However, the 500 Series is also seven pounds lighter.
Ride1Up put together a really great package with the 700 Series. In fact, I've found myself using my car much less for some of my longer commutes. The 750-watt motor supplies a lot of power, and the battery just lasts forever. If you're someone with a handful of miles you need to travel on a regular basis, this should be perfect for you. It obviously doesn't have the same cargo space as a car, but if I'm just trying to get from point A to point B, that's not a problem.. The large battery allows for extended trips when pedaling but the throttle is really great to have when I want to just coast, so I can take a break while still traveling. Plus, its large tires mean I can take this bike off-road without having to worry about how difficult it'll feel.

6 Vet- and Owner-Approved Tips for Keeping Your Dog Calm During July Fourth Fireworks

The Fourth of July is a time for backyard barbecues, pool parties -- and fireworks. Though you might love the pyrotechnics, your dog may bark and howl or hide under the bed. According to the American Kennel Club, a large number of pooches even run away during the Independence Day holiday.
"They don't know where the noise is coming from and they try to escape because they don't understand," said Dallas Harsa of lost pet recovery service AKC Reunite.
"It can be the smell. It can be the noise and the flashes of the light," New Jersey veterinarian Judy Morgan told the AKC. "Your dog may tremble, shake, shiver, howl and bark -- some of them get frantic."
Some dogs get so anxious during the light show that they have to be sedated. Before it comes to that, though, check out a few handy tips for keeping your pup calm during fireworks, from veterinarians and a few of my pet-owning coworkers.
1. Think twice before taking your dog out
The social atmosphere and warm weather might tempt you to take your dog out to see the fireworks show, but it can take years of desensitization and positive reinforcement to make a dog relaxed around fireworks.
If you do take your dog out on Independence Day, be sure to use multiple forms of restraint and have them microchipped and tagged, said Jana Bone, a veterinarian at Skyline Animal Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Healthline editor Heather Hobbs' Golden Retriever-Saluki mix, Daisy, has no problem with fireworks now. "We would give her treats each time she heard the booms," said Hobbs.

A seemingly calm dog may suddenly get startled and bolt, Bone said.
Krista Scholdberg, a software engineer with CNET's parent company, Red Ventures, said her family had to work for a long time to get their Belgian sheepdog, Omega, to enjoy fireworks. She advises training your dog to get used to loud sounds when they're a puppy.
"Be prepared with lots of high-value treats and pass them out every time there is a boom," Scholdberg said.
More important, she added, stay relaxed yourself.
"They will pick up on your cues and get more stressed when you are stressing about them being stressed."
Scholdberg started training Omega when he was little and, at just 2 and a half years old, he's completely unaffected by fireworks and other loud noises.
"We're in South Carolina, where fireworks are legal, so anytime people start setting them off, we go outside," she said. "I give him treats every time."
2. Create a safe area
To get started, keep the curtains closed and try to bring your dog to a part of the house without windows or glass doors, like the basement or even a closet.
"We've had dogs run right through glass doors," Bone said.
Keep the lights low -- or off -- and fill the space with a dog bed and his favorite blanket and toys. A dog might even prefer a crate or kennel during the fireworks.
If you can, stay home with them during the light show or find someone the dog knows and trusts to be with them.
3. Drown out the sound with music or white noise
Leave the TV or radio on high volume or run the air conditioner or fan to help cover up the booming fireworks.
There's even specific music shown to lower anxiety in dogs, like the Through a Dog's Ear CD series.
"I came across some playlists on Spotify for classical music for pets, which seems to really help my dog and cats," said Healthline editor Veronica Zambon. "Last Bonfire Night in the UK, they actually settled down and slept with the fireworks going on for several hours as the music blasted through some speakers."
4. Take them for a walk well before the fireworks start
A trip to the dog park well before sunset can help ensure your pooch won't have to heed nature's call during the fireworks.
It can also help him work off excess energy and relax him for the evening -- as will extra intense playtime during the day.
"Use a Kong with peanut butter to keep them occupied and some soothing music or white noise," said Red Ventures recruiter Sophia Rossell Romo. "You want to tire them out earlier that day so they have less excess energy."
RV administrator Samantha Kuykendall uses what she calls the "popcorn party" strategy.
"We pop a bowl of plain popcorn and every time a firework goes off, we call it the 'popcorn alarm' and toss our dog a few pieces," Kuykendall said. "After a bit she stops stressing out and looks to us for a snack every time there are fireworks!"
5. Try a Thundershirt or anxiety wrap
Human babies are calmer when swaddled in a blanket and fur babies are the same way: Swaddling a dog with a blanket can be difficult, though, so you might want to try a ThunderShirt.
"It's basically like a weighted blanket for your dog that velcros around them," Bone said.
A Thundershirt or other weighted vest can help calm an anxious dog.

Other good options include the Surgi Snuggly and the American Kennel Club AKC Anti-Anxiety and Stress Relief Calming Coat.
You can also go low-tech: "I've used a snug-fitting T-shirt to help with the anxiety," Red Ventures engineer Christopher Turley said. "It's helped a lot not only for fireworks, but for thunderstorms. There are commercial products, but even a good old T-shirt helps."
6. Talk to your veterinarian about medication
If your pet's anxiety is severe, talk to your vet about giving them medication. Bone said she often prescribes a combination of an anti-anxiety medication, such as trazodone, and a sedative, like gabapentin.
"We'll often start them a few days before the fireworks are expected," she added. "If we can stay ahead of the anxiousness, we can get control. You definitely don't want to wait for the first loud noise to give your dog medication."
Red Ventures senior engineer Thomas Hopkins has gone through several options with his mom's dogs. They now both get a dose of Trazodone any time the family knows they'll be near fireworks.
"Definitely let your vet guide you on medication," said Hopkins, whose wife is a veterinarian. "It's possible your pet could benefit from longer-term anxiety medication."

Launches are bound to run into issues and bugs. Sometimes, those issues may force you to reinstall Windows 11. An easy way of doing that is by using a USB installation drive that has a copy of Windows 11 on it. With the update safely stored on a flash drive, you can reinstall it at any time, should any issues get bad enough that your only option is to reinstall the update.
You can also use a USB drive to make it easier to install Windows 11 on multiple computers, or to quickly set up a virtual machine to make testing possible without risking your personal data.
Microsoft has updated its Media Creation Tool to include Windows 11. You can download the ISO image straight from the source and flash to a USB drive yourself.
To create a Windows 11 installation drive, you'll need an empty 8GB USB drive, a Windows PC and up to a few hours of your time. You can download the system image using a Linux computer or Mac, but we're going to focus on using a PC for this guide. Below are the steps you'll need to follow.
Download the latest Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft
To download the Windows 11 ISO image you'll need to create a USB bootable drive. First, visit the Download Windows 11 page. You'll see a few other options for installation, but you're looking for Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO).
Scroll down the page until you see a dropdown labeled Select Download. Click the dropdown and then select Windows 11, then click Download. Next you'll be asked to select a language, then click Confirm again, followed by clicking on the 64-bit Download button to finally begin downloading the ISO. It's a fairly large file at 5.1GB, so depending on your internet connection, it may take some time for the download to finish.
Once the download finishes, your work isn't completely done. You need to burn that ISO image onto a USB drive. And to do that, you'll need some extra software. Don't worry, though, it's an easy process.
With the ISO finished, this is how Rufus should look before you flash Windows 11 to your USB drive.

How to flash Windows 11 to your USB drive
To turn a standard USB drive into an installation drive, you'll need to use a program called Rufus. It's the same app that Microsoft itself uses in its guide for creating a Windows 10 bootable drive. Visit the company's website to download and install Rufus, which should only take a few seconds. It's a small program.
Plug in your USB drive and open Rufus. Select your USB drive using the Device dropdown. Remember, anything on your thumb drive will be erased during this process -- so make sure it's empty or you have everything you need off of it.
Under Boot Selection select Disk or ISO image and then click on the text that reads SELECT and pick the ISO file you created in the previous step.
There's a section in Rufus labeled Image option with several different settings -- leave everything as the default. The same can be said for format options unless you want to change the name of the USB drive to something like "Windows 11 install" or along those lines.
Click Start when you're sure all of the options are set. You'll again have to wait while the program does its job, but it should be a much quicker process than downloading and creating the ISO. It took just over 15 minutes on a Surface Pro X for me.
You can now install Windows 11 with ease.

What to do with a Windows 11 installation drive
Once Rufus finishes, you can remove the USB drive from your PC and either keep it somewhere safe in case you need to reinstall Windows 11 on your PC, or you can plug it into another PC and use it to install Windows 11 by opening the drive and double-clicking the setup.exe file. A few seconds later, a Windows 11 installation screen will appear, walking you through the rest of the process.
Alternatively, you can try and use the USB drive as a bootable installation drive. However, this is where things get even more complicated, due to Windows 11 requiring Secure Boot, and the USB drive we just created not being compatible with that feature. I suggest waiting for Microsoft to release an official tool, but if you insist, I found a guide that walks you through the extra steps of making a bootable USB drive that's compatible with secure boot on Tom's Hardware, starting at step 11.

Some levels have limits or special features (such as fires) to help you dispatch your victims (and provide hazards that you need to avoid yourself) and you can even earn coins to unlock special kills. Really, the art style is something special: The team created over 100 dioramas and scanned them to create pre-rendered backgrounds. It's worth downloading just to look at, if nothing else.

Basic gameplay, but incredibly creative storytelling: Her Story was won many accolades, including being named GameSpot's Game of the Month in June of 2015.

With the fun frustration that came with tap and drag games like Flappy Bird and many others since, Helix Jump will have you screaming at the screen, then coming back for "just one more." The haptic response when the ball bounces is also a nice touch.

A group of friends hanging out on a beach take a turn for the worse when the teens accidentally open a ghostly rift. Soon the group is fighting for survival, struggling through time loops and doubting if everyone is truly who they say they are. Oxenfree calls itself a "supernatural teen thriller," but deftly avoids tropes and cliches, providing characters with depth and a fascinating, eerie plot. It's a quick game you could play in one sitting, but there's multiple endings so you can always go back.

Words can't do Framed justice: It really is one of the more unusual concepts we have seen in some time. The entire game takes place without words, as it's laid out as a completely wordless noir comic, with our protagonists avoiding being spotted by law while double-crossing each other. Gameplay is not action-based, but context-based. You have to examine each page, shifting the panels around to make sure that events occur in the order that sees our hero escape clean, getting the jump on police or sneaking past. Although it may sound good, that's nothing compared to how satisfying it is to experience.
And if you dig it, a sequel, Framed 2, was released in 2017.
